Cena dal giardino... Dinner from the garden...

We have dinner alfresco almost nightly in the spring,  summer,  and into fall...  We are so spoiled with our weather...  not too hot , not too cool...  This evening,  I used just picked  Zucchini ,  Zucchini flowers, and fresh herbs  from the garden to make my  Zucchini flower and Zucchini Risotto ....

Dessert didn't come from the garden... but it was delicious...  Affogato... Coffee Gelato drowned in Hot Espresso...

Una piccola raccolta, e la crostata di mele... A small harvest and an apple tart...

My espaliered  Anna Apple Tree had some apples on it  that were ripe... We get apples from this espalier  pretty much any time of the year here in San Diego,  so I decided to make an apple tart...

This is a rustic apple tart with a thin layer of sweetened Mascarpone Cheese  under the sliced apples.  Homemade crust  makes it extra delicious...

Ispirazione dal Mare... Inspiration from the Sea...

Summertime always brings back such nice memories of long days spent at the beach,  or vacations back to Italy.  We don't spend as much time basking in the sun as we used to now that Priscilla is all grown up,  but we do love the beach...  Decorating inspiration in the summer is all about shells...

This is a view of the Adriatic Sea from my Mom's balcony in Italy. This photo doesn't really do it justice,  but the view is amazing...

Una giornata nel giardino... A day in the garden...

Sometimes I feel like such an impatient gardener.... these cute little heirloom carrots could have been in the ground a bit ( or a lot ) longer,  but I really want to give my pumpkin patch plenty of room to grow, and these little guys were in the way.

I decided to cook them even though they were so tiny,  I just tossed them with a little Olive Oil, salt, pepper and some fresh oregano,  and roasted them for a few minutes.  They were really sweet and delicious.

Hydrangea is one of my favorite plants and I have lots of them.  I love the different shapes of the flowers and the way the a single plant can have different color flowers on it...  I guess my soil isn't very acidic and i'm not too faithful in adding acid fertilizer so I really end up with mostly pinks which are pretty but I really want them to be blue.  When I visited Priscilla at school in Seattle.  I was amazed at the stunning shades of blue that the all the Hydrangeas were.

"La Donnina del Giardino"  My "Little Lady of the Garden" happily watches over a mini garden making sure the little gnomes don't get into any trouble.  You know how those gnomes are...

Needed to harvest some Basil  before it got too big so I made Pesto,  which is great to have around for a quick dinner.  Like Tortellini with pesto.
